The biggest challenge lay in integrating two core functionalities: live streaming of matches and an in-app video editor. These are resource-intensive features that require sophisticated engineering to run smoothly and reliably on mobile devices with low latency, ensuring the best possible user experience.
THE SOLUTIONThe team of experts at NUS Technology approached the project as a strategic partner. We worked closely with Jorge Ortiz to understand his vision, identify the core technical challenges, and devise a robust, scalable solution.
To meet the project's complex requirements, the NUS team chose a modern and powerful technology stack:
• Flutter was selected as the primary framework for the mobile app, allowing for rapid development across both iOS and Android from a single codebase. This not only saved time and resources but also ensured a consistent user experience on all devices.
• NodeJS was used for the backend. With its ability to handle real-time, asynchronous connections, it was the ideal choice for building a solid backend system to support the live streaming feature.
The main challenge was implementing these complex features on a mobile platform.
• Live Streaming: Our team engineered a low-latency live video transmission mechanism. This solution ensures that matches are broadcast smoothly and stably, even when the user's network conditions are not ideal.
• In-app Video Editor: We developed a powerful yet user-friendly video editor directly within Flutter. Users can easily cut, edit, and share their impressive game highlights. This required intensive performance optimization to ensure the app runs fast without draining the battery or slowing down the device.
THE RESULTThe collaboration culminated in the successful launch of Varsity Hype on both the App Store and Google Play, meeting all of the client's requirements. The app was immediately embraced by its target audience, receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews that specifically praised the quality of the live streaming and the intuitive, powerful in-app video editor.
